Small Rotors: Revolution on the Ridgeline
In the shadows of their large siblings small wind systems are poised for the mass market.
Irresistible Growth
Despite the financial crisis the global expansion of wind power capacity continued strongly in 2009. Although the main players were once again China and the U.S, the ambitious plans of a few old old friend an many small countries also contributed their share to the worldwide boom. Optimistic forecasts expect a million megawatts of installed wind capacity by 2020.
The German Wind Market 2009 in Retrospect
By the end of 2009 21,164 wind turbines with a total capacity of 25,777 megawatts (MW) had been installed in Germany.
Offshore: Off the Blocks
From the land of hope to a real wind energy market at last: Alpha Ventus, Germany´s first offshore wind farm, feeds electricity into the national grid from the German North Sea. Globally wind energy is conquering the seas. Whilst Great Britain is leaping ahead, new offshore markets are emerging all the time.
